An average of 70 construction workers each year are killed in backover accidents

In a crowded and congested urban environment like New York City, space is in short supply. Consequently, many of the buildings being constructed and renovated are built up rather than out. With tens to hundreds of construction workers, dump trucks, cranes and other construction vehicles and equipment all crowded into a small area; the likelihood of an accident occurring increases exponentially.

For New York's road construction workers, a day at the office can be deadly

On a daily basis, millions of motor vehicles travel along New York State's highways and roads. It's no wonder therefore, that road construction crews are frequently called upon to fix road defects, perform regular maintenance and construct new roadways. For the men and women who are tasked with helping ensure that New York's roads are safe and navigable, there are many occupational hazards including the risk of suffering injuries in a motor vehicle-related accident.

Why construction vehicle safety and training is so important

For construction workers in New York City, worksites are full of potential hazards that pose a risk to a worker's health and physical safety. Not only must construction workers routinely complete work projects from atop scaffolding, putting them at risk of falling and from the depths of trenches that may collapse unexpectedly; but workers must also be constantly aware of the whereabouts and movements of construction vehicles.

Commercial trucks: lopsided cause of serious accidents

I-87, I-95 and I-78 are just three of the interstate highway abbreviations with which New York City residents have a love-hate relationship. Yes, we sometimes get from Point A to Point B faster by taking an interstate, but the highways are  often frustrating for drivers experiencing slowed traffic.

Dozens are killed in each crash, with the rest of the passengers injured and hundreds more hurt on the ground. How long do you think that could continue, week after week, before the government launched major investigations and new safety procedures?

Man crushed by garbage truck while crossing the street

Removing the trash from a city as large as New York requires a small army of sanitation trucks. These garbage trucks are generally extremely large, may be nearly full, and may have drivers on a tight schedule. The result is a danger for pedestrians, who can be seriously injured or in a collision with a sanitation truck. In one recent tragic accident, a man in his mid-20s died after being hit by a garbage truck. Police are investigating the accident.
