Update on New York tour bus accident

Ten days ago, a 14-year-old girl was on her way with her mother to New York City when the Canadian tour bus the pair rode on veered off of an upstate highway and rolled onto its side in North Hudson. The girl was ejected from the bus and pinned beneath.

She died of traumatic brain injuries. State officials continue their investigation to try to determine the cause of the bus accident

Two of the 55 passengers remain hospitalized, according to the Montreal Gazette. Both are expected by doctors to recover from their injuries.

A third person who suffered serious injuries recently returned to Quebec.

According to an earlier report by the paper, after the 14-year-old was pinned beneath the vehicle, state police and passengers managed to lift the bus off of her, though her injuries proved to be too severe for survival.

A witness to the accident described a bloody scene in which passengers were escaping through both the windshield and an emergency exit in the vehicle’s roof. Bus company officials have not said what caused the crash.

The charter was operated by a Quebec City firm that said the 61-year-old driver had repeatedly passed driving tests. In the earlier Gazette report, the company said the 2008 bus was in excellent condition. The vehicle was impounded by police as part of their investigation.

As attorneys experienced in these kinds of tragedies know, there are several types of claims that can be brought afterwards. That makes it imperative that victims discuss their legal options with a law firm that understands these cases and has represented clients in similar circumstances.
