Nine injured in New York City auto accident

When a person climbs into a limousine, they expect certain things: a level of comfort beyond that to be found in an ordinary taxi, for instance. And they certainly expect a licensed driver behind the wheel to take care to get all passengers safely to their destination.

While the nine people inside a 2013 Cadillac Escalade on a recent early morning might have been riding in style, they never reached their destination safely. Nine people were injured – six of them critically –  in the New York City car accident just after 5 a.m. Police said it appeared that speed was a contributing factor in the crash on the New England Thruway in the Bronx.

The SUV smashed head-on into a wall near an exit ramp, law enforcement officials said. A witness said the vehicle “was mangled in a million pieces. The impact had to be enormous.”

Police reported that all the accident victims were between ages 24 and 36.

Police sources told a TV station that the driver of the vehicle might have been behind the wheel with a revoked license. The man apparently works for a limo service, though a spokesperson for the limo service said the driver was not working at the time of the crash.

Law enforcement is investigating whether or not alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the wreck. New York City Police Department Commissioner Bill Bratton said it was his understanding that “excessive speed was probably a significant factor.”

Accident injury victims should discuss the contributing causes of a crash, as well as the injuries and expenses they sustained as a result, with an experienced personal injury attorney.
