Boy killed in pedestrian-truck accident in Queens

An 8-year-old boy is dead after being run over in a tragic truck accident in Queens. The boy was crossing the street with his 11-year-old sister on their way to school when he was struck by the back wheels of the truck. It was the last day of school before the holiday break, and the boy was carrying a gift for his teacher. Normally, his mother walked him to school, but on this day she had let the kids walk by themselves. He was just a half-block from his school when the accident happened.

Working on scaffolds places construction employees high above the ground and at risk of injuries and death from falls. But contractors, insurers and property owners have long said the law is unfair, and they are now waging a new campaign against the law.

Worker killed in collapse of retaining wall

Construction workers are supposed to be protected by rules and regulations designed to keep construction sites safe. Rules require workers to be educated and protected from falls and falling objects that could cause serious injury or death. Despite these safety precautions, however, workers continue to die in construction accidents every year. In one recent New York construction accident, one worker was killed when a retaining wall collapsed on him.
