Boy killed in pedestrian-truck accident in Queens

An 8-year-old boy is dead after being run over in a tragic truck accident in Queens. The boy was crossing the street with his 11-year-old sister on their way to school when he was struck by the back wheels of the truck. It was the last day of school before the holiday break, and the boy was carrying a gift for his teacher. Normally, his mother walked him to school, but on this day she had let the kids walk by themselves. He was just a half-block from his school when the accident happened.

Opponents reignite debate over New York Scaffold Law

Working on scaffolds places construction employees high above the ground and at risk of injuries and death from falls. Because of this danger, New York lawmakers have enacted special legal protections for people who work on scaffolding. But contractors, insurers and property owners have long said the law is unfair, and they are now waging a new campaign against the law.

Woman killed when car crashes at accident-prone site

A ten-year veteran of the New York Police Department has died after a horrific car accident. The 36-year-old woman crashed when her car lost control on a ramp and crashed into a storefront, fueling speculation among bystanders that the road design has created a dangerous situation for drivers and pedestrians.

Worker killed in collapse of retaining wall

Construction workers are supposed to be protected by rules and regulations designed to keep construction sites safe. Rules require workers to be educated and protected from falls and falling objects that could cause serious injury or death. Despite these safety precautions, however, workers continue to die in construction accidents every year. In one recent New York construction accident, one worker was killed when a retaining wall collapsed on him.
