Wrongful death suit filed against New York cab companies

Among the millions of people who come into New York City everyday are thousands of tourists anxious to enjoy the hustle and bustle of one of the most exciting cities in the world. Those who live in the city may be accustomed to the hectic traffic and congestion that goes on every day, but many people are experiencing it for the first time. Unfortunately, many of these people become victims of a serious car accident.

One such family of tourists recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against two parties citing that a 5-year-old boy was hit and killed by a speeding taxi driven by a New York cab driver. The family was visiting the city from Texas for the very first time when they suffered this devastating tragedy.

According to reports, the young boy was walking with his parents at the time of the accident. Each of the family members is deaf, though it is not reported whether that played a role in the crash or not. The lawsuit states that they were at an intersection when the cab came speeding through an intersection full of pedestrians. The young boy was hit and he suffered serious damage to his head. He was brought to the hospital, but died three days later after the parents were advised to take him off life support.

The parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Autumn Cab Corp. and NYC Taxi Group Inc., claiming that there were numerous examples of negligence on their part. Not only was the cab driver driving too fast for that area, but he was improperly trained and supervised.

The grief that this accident has caused cannot be overstated. While there is nothing the family can do to undo the horrific loss that they have suffered, they want to hold the negligent parties accountable for their roles in the accident. They are seeking damages related to wrongful death, mental anguish and loss of consortium in addition to bystander claims, court costs and interest.
