New York truck accident sends four to hospital with injuries

Accidents that involve a large commercial-sized vehicle can be extremely frightening for victims. One second, you may just be driving alone the highway and the next second, you look in your rearview mirror and see an enormous vehicle barreling towards you. Too often, these truck accidents are caused when a trucker is distracted and does not notice slowing traffic ahead of them, or a truck is following too closely behind a car that has to make an abrupt stop.

Getting rear-ended by a truck can be very different than getting rear-ended by a smaller vehicle. The power and weight of a tractor-trailer is often very significant. Getting slammed into by a truck can do extensive damage to cars and those inside the vehicles. Often, there are serious back or brain injuries, broken bones and even fatalities that happen in this type of preventable crash.

Recently, four people were injured when they were in this very situation. A person was driving a sedan and had two passengers in the car as they made their way onto the New York State Thruway. Suddenly, a tractor-trailer that was traveling behind the sedan smashed into the rear of the car. The impact of the collision caused the vehicles to rollover and injured all of the people inside the sedan as well as the truck driver. It took authorities more than an hour to clear the accident and the victims from the road.

So far, there have been no details regarding the reason for the collision has been released. In similar crashes, a truck driver is following too closely or is not paying attention to the road. Truck drivers are supposed to comply with a number of trucking regulations that do not apply to non-commercial vehicles. When they fail to do this or operate their vehicle negligently, this type of accident may be the result.
